Resting on the banks of Lake Norman are the towns of Cornelius, Davidson, Mooresville, Denver, and Huntersville, NC.   These towns offer all of the modern amenities that families and individuals are looking for today, combined with a great relaxed lake atmosphere.  Just 15-20 minutes from uptown Charlotte, NC, the Lake Norman area offers a myriad of shopping, dining and recreation activities.

Duke Energy created Lake Norman in 1963.  The lake is about 34 miles long with 520 miles of shoreline.  Named after former Duke Energy President Norman Cocke, Lake Norman is the largest manmade body of freshwater in the state. The company flooded it to fullness in 1963 by building the Cowans Ford Dam, which you can view as you drive from Huntersville to Denver on HWY 73.  These days, lake water still powers the generators at the hydro station at Cowans Ford to form electricity. It also cools the steam that drives the turbines at Marshall Steam Station in Terrell and McGuire Nuclear Station in Huntersville.  Lake Norman also provides drinking water for many area towns.
